 Information on Essential Oils

Oil Safety
First and foremost always remember oil safety, these guidelines are only a guide to help you for the proper use of using essential oils. If you have any doubts always consult a medical practitioner or a qualified aromatherapist, do not try to 'treat yourself' for any illnesses or aliments that either you or a family member or friend may have. Oils are lovely and wonderful to use but you need to treat them with repeat and follow all recipes carefully, providing you do this you can enjoy the wonderful world of essential oils.

Guidelines
1. Always dilute essential oils with a carrier or base oil

2. Some oils can cause sensitization or allergic reaction for some individuals, so when using a new oil for the first time always do a skin patch test first. To do this use a small amount of diluted oil inside your elbow, place a small bandage over it and wait 24 hours to see if any reaction has occurred. Some oils are already known to cause a reaction in certain individuals but you are unique to you so any oils can cause a reaction so always perform the skin patch test.

3. Never allow children to play or use essential oils unless the adult caring for them is qualified to do so. Most oils have a wonderful fragrance so they could be confused with a nice smelling drink, so always keep your oils away from children ~ treat them as you would do for medicines.

4. Essential oils are flammable

5. Essential oils should never be taken internally

6. Some essential oils should not be used during pregnancy and some people who have other health conditions.

7. Some oils phototoxic which means do not use before exposure to the sun or sunbeds.
